History of Astrocartography

Jim Lewis, an astrologer from the late 1970s, developed a theory (astrocartography) that uniquely combined a person's birth data with the image of a world map. Superimposed on the map were a series of curving and vertical lines, representing the planets in their rising, setting, Midheaven, and Imum Coeli positions. Lewis theorized that the traditional symbolism assigned to a particular planet would somehow manifest in a person's life when he or she traveled to places touched by these planetary lines. Lewis's book Astro*Carto*Graphy contains the astro-maps of over 100 well-known personalities, along with the symbolism association with the various planets in question.

Following this study, Robert Couteau arrived with the theory of the least aspected planet(s) and leading planets. According to Couteau, the planet corresponding to "the key location" is the least-aspected planet in the birth chart of a person. This "least-aspected" planet has very few aspects. It is the guiding principle within the individuals' life, symbolizing the central spiritual goal and character traits. It is the archetypal portrait at a core level and symbolizes a motivational factor that manifests in the forefront of the personality and their professional life. By using relocation mapping of the individual's birth chart, the least aspected planet will reveal locations and zones of special importance.
